Kaleiçi, the restored historical center of the city containing hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops retains much of its historical character for which it won the Golden Apple Tourism Prize. The city includes areas with traces of Lycian, Pamphylian, and Hellenistic, but mainly they are of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman architecture and cultures. In Cumhuriyet Square, the main square in the center of the city often features temporary open-air exhibitions and performances. In Kaleiçi the narrow cobbled streets are lined with historic Turkish and Greek houses. This is the old center of Antalya which now has mainly boutique style hotels, unique gift shops, and bars. The new hotels, such as the Sheraton, stand along the coast above Konyaalti and Lara beaches.
Having become one of the world's and the Mediterranean's leading tourism destinations Antalya attracts 30% of foreign tourists visiting Turkey. It has 72 five-star hotels - as many as any other resort destination in the world.
